Dear Boone County Residents,
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your State's Attorney and to make a positive difference for our community.
As State's Attorney, I have built the office to better serve all the people of Boone County. If re-elected, I promise to continue to emphasize public safety and proactive leadership in the State's Attorney's office. I plan to run on the promises that I kept as a State's Attorney for all of Boone County.
I promised to be tough on crime. I have a zero-tolerance policy against gangs and have made the war on gangs a priority. I have 'just said no' to drug dealers, and now they are serving prison sentences. I have put children first and have gone after child predators. I wanted our streets safe and have held drunk drivers accountable.
I promised to work for what is best for all of Boone County and to make the office more accessible to the public. The office hours used to be from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the office was closed over the lunch hour. I immediately changed this to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and ensured that the office was open over the lunch hour so that the public has an opportunity to access the office when it is convenient for them. I have made decisions based on the law and the facts and not who is involved. I have personally been involved in a number of seminars and forums providing information to our community about our criminal justice system, criminal laws, and public safety.
I promised to be fiscally responsible. I have stepped up our efforts in ensuring that defendants pay their court-ordered fines from criminal cases, which has been successful. I worked to get Chrysler to pay its property taxes in the amount of $914,000, the most money that Boone County has ever collected from a single debtor. And I have managed the office so that we are doing more for less.
I will continue to keep my promises and will continue to work hard for all of Boone County. I would greatly appreciate your vote in the Republican Primary on March 20, 2012.
Sincerely,
Michelle J. Courier
